Me and my cousins, (Illustration Friday week 3, Unbalanced)

So,

I started drawing Girls with birds on their heads earlier this year! So, the birds represent thoughts. And this is sort of a representative of how thoughts can overpower, and unbalance you. She's tipping over. It's a big bird.

Also, colors are really off, due to poor lighting. May repost with better light later. This is all due to lack of scanner.

Thoughts? Comments? : D

  1. You are so right about thoughts unbalancing you. Very nice illustration.

  2. I love the symbolism of big thoughts/big birds throwing one off balance.

  3. Jake-This illustration has given me a whole new perspective on the birthday picture you made for me. In my bday picture, my bird-thought has me perfectly balanced...thanks! The birds look more menacing in this drawing--maybe because of the face of the large bird, which looks unsympathetic, and the presence of a little owl-like figure in black--those pesky nagging thoughts that just won't go away. The look on the girl's face tells me that she's tipping over and that she's a little bit scared by what she's feeling or seeing--disequilibrium! Thank you for giving me something to look forward to each week, Jake.

  4. This picture could be me this past week. Life has been so hectic here with things that have been going on. Your drawing helped me to realize that my thoughts about what has been happening are making me even more off balance than the actual reality of it all. Thank you for pointing this out through your artwork, which I love. I love the artwork, not the pointing it out. Although, I appreciate the pointing out too, but I'm starting to ramble here so I'll stop.

  5. Jake this is a cool illo. I really like the flow of it and how colorful. Yeah, scanners are a huge asset. I have a Canon one that I got on Amazon for under $100. I use it ALOT!
