Flightless Bird (Illustration Friday, Week 1, Skinny!)




So, what started out as an assignment that I wasn't wholly excited about, turned into something really personal, and sweet. My initial thoughts: 'What's skinny? ... My legs are skinny. Oh, you know what's skinnier than that? Bird legs.' And so we got a skinny boy/girl, in a skinny forest, with skinny-legged birds.

I can relate to the person, I'm not sure if it's a boy or a girl, in my opinion they look like they're just watching, and waiting, seeing what the tall ones will say, in response to their question...

    The word "skinny" evokes for me an unfortunate rhyme I learned when I was wee about "fat" and "skinny" having a "race up and down the pillowcase." Maybe now I can have a new association with that word. :-)
